Welcome, friend!
Mithlond is the Tolkien Society of Gothenburg and west Sweden.
HOBBITRY
The main point of joining Mithlond, other than the joy of talking Tolkien with like-minded, and the parties, is the opportunity to create and dress up in beautiful costumes.
Members assume an alias, a character set in Arda. There are Elves, Men, Hobbits, animals, Nazgûl, Orcs, Dwarves and various others. Members are then encouraged to act within this alias.
HAPPENINGS
Mithlond activities are centered around parties, the biggest one being the Autumn Feast in October.
Non-party activities are held within various guilds based upon a common interest, e.g. books, cooking, outdoors activities, gaming and whatnot.
Every first Tuesday we meet at the pub Ölstugan Tullen at Svingeln, for an informal get-together. Welcome, friend!
HISTORY
Mithlond was founded in 1981 as part of Forodrim, the Tolkien society of Stockholm — which in turn was founded in 1973 by members in the diaspora of The Tolkien society of Sweden which was started in Gothenburg in 1968.
Since 1997 Mithlond has been a Tolkien society in its own right, with its Grey Council, orders of merit and newsletter. Its history is still in the making and you can help write the next chapter…
